It all started when I was a teenager in Galveston, TX. At the start of each season my mother and I would go to "THE TEENAGE SHOP" for my spring or fall wardrobe shopping spree. Then we would go to "Nathan's" for matching shoes and accessories. She would tell me if I buy good clothes, not trendy clothes, they will never go out of style. I interpreted that as "if I buy unique and artsy clothes, I create my own style."

After 2 years at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in math, I knew I was not going in the right direction. I found out about a fashion merchandising school in New York City - Tobe-Coburn. Miss Tobe created the Tobe Report, still used as a Fashion Forecast. We studied everything from The History of Fashion to textiles. Bill Blass and Adam Gimble were just a couple of our famous teachers. My term paper for my senior year was "Assuming You Open Your Own Business" - do your assortment plan, business plan, etc. We even went to Fashion Houses to shop for our merchandise. Mine was an accessory boutique.

After 5 years in retail and 25 years as a furniture rep (my father would say "I sent you to the best school in the country for fashion merchandising, and you're selling recliners!") my dream finally came true.
